Mmmm.. Chartwells

The best class of my entire school career had to be this past Tuesday in chartwells. Anyone who knows me would say, yes of course that was your best class in history because you love to eat, but that wasn't the only reason. It's weird how you're in a class with a lot of other people, and yet you know them, but you don't really know them. I thought that it was just amazing how we all got together, and got to know one another in a different setting, while still learning about literature. The food was really good that day  (random thought).

I learned so much more about literature in an hour than I have learned in any other class for a week. It's very different when you sit down and talk with other people about a specific text because usually every response to a text might not be the same as someone has viewed it. Before the discussion we had on Tuesday, I believed that there was only one true meaning to a text, which comes from the author. Obviously I was wrong. A text can have different meanings for different people. For example, Alicia (sorry if I spelled your name wrong)  read a poem to the table, and at the end of the poem we all gave our responses. I would have thought that our responses would be similar, but they weren't at all. I believe that the trials/situations people go through allow them to interpret literature in different ways. The fact that literature has more than one meaning is pretty cool.

Getting to know a couple people in the class was different, but it's good to know how different people interpret things. It can help others gain insight on things that they could never imagine. I really enjoyed the "table talk" and I really hope we can do it again! Hopefully we can. It was a great idea! At first I was like, what are we going to talk about, I hope we just don't sit here and stare at each other, but we actually had an engaged and in depth conversation.
